Colourful Native Spring Wedding at Cornelian Bay Boathouse

Hobart Wedding in October

For this simple Hobart wedding in October, the brief was for burgundies and pinks with a relaxed style.  I love October for natives - the Waratahs are always a treat to use.  For the bride's bouquet, I used a White Waratah and a deep red NSW Waratah.  

Adding to the Waratahs, I used a hybrid protea called Pink Cream, which has soft pink bracts surrounding a cream centre.  Cream Lecuadendron Discolour were added too.   I love their colour in October, when they're at their lightest.  Their pink tinged tips are so pretty.  Hot pink Boronia was added too, which adds a beautiful fragrance to a bouquet.  

Burgundy was added with the Safari Sunset Leucadendrons.  

I also added some of the variegated Leucos - Jester which are burgundy with a green stripe.    To cool the colour palette down, I put in some gorgeous Isopogons or Cone Flowers in pinky-purple, as well as some rich purple misty.  

Berzelia and Phylica added some gorgeous texture.  For foliage, there was some silky Silver Tree Leucadendron, and some blue-green gum.  

The rich clear colours and textures are one of the things I love the most about spring natives.

I made some simple, lush table decorations for the reception tables at Peppermint Bay.   

Simple glass vases were filled with Waratahs, Pink Cream Proteas and more of the smaller flowers and foliage.  I love the feathery Phylica which adds texture and softness.

Such a joyful colour combination for these table decorations!

Battery Point Wedding in March

This March wedding was held in Battery Point, an historic inner city suburb of Hobart.  The ceremony was held in the courtyard of the beautiful historic house, Narryna.  Battery Point community Hall was the reception venue.  

There was a bridal bouquet and a little flower girls bouquet in  pinks, reds, and creamy whites with blue green foliages.  Protea Compacta Red is a large velvet pink protea with a red centre that looks great in bouquets.  For the bride's bouquet, it was teamed with an early creamy white Repens protea, a black fringed white Neriifolia and some creamy flowering Brunia Albiflora.

For the reds, there were Banksia Occidentalis, new seasons Safari Sunset Leucos (burgundy) and Jester Leucos (striped burgundy and green).  I also used the first of the fine leafed Leucadendron Tall Red in rich maroon.  Masses of budded gum and Agonis Flexuosa foliage provided the structure. 

Other Leucadedrons added were the dusky red tinged Orientale, and the pure and sage Discolour with its silvery edges.  Some Leucadendron Pisa foliage, which is a soft silvery green, was also included.  Lastly, there were dark mahogany coloured dried Leucadendron cones.  I love the texture and depth of colour they add.  

Blue Sea Holly was sprinkled through the arrangements and the groom had a Sea Holly "thistle" in his boutonniere, surrounded by Brunia gum foliage, Pisa foliage, a Jester Leuco and some sprigs of Thryptomene.  

The little flower girl wore a crown of L. Pisa foliage, gum foliage and sprigs of thryptomene. 

I love using the soft green Pisa foliage.  Its soft and silky like the Silver Tree but much finer leafed.  

For the bride, a floral comb featuring a red Banksia and some Jester Leucos, Sea Holly, gum foliage, Pisa foliage, Agonis foliage and more Thryptomene.

There were a few late flowering gum buds and lastly, a dried Leucadendron cone.  

  

The ceremony took place in a sheltered courtyard in the garden of Narryna House.  Floral arch decorations were made with masses of foliage and flowers.  The standout were some huge flowering Brunia heads. 

The courtyard walls are full of character and the ground is paved with huge old flagstones.  It was a lovely, intimate spot for this small wedding.  

The gorgeous cake was made by Coal River Farm and was decorated with giant blackberries.  More matching flowers and foliage decorated each tier.

For the reception at Battery Point Community Hall, there were vases full of flowers and foliage to match the bouquets.  Flowering Brunia, Protea Pink Ice, Banksia Occidentalis, masses of gum, and Pisa foliage, and some Agonis, as well as a variety of Leucadendrons.  

The venue has beautiful light that streams in through the windows.  

  

The lovely bride and groom sent this picture, admiring the cake.  I love that you can see her bouquet and hair flowers and how everything ties together.  It was such a pleasure to help in the celebration of this couples' special day.  

September Wedding at Glen Albyn Estate

September, and the official beginning of spring!  Its a great time for a wedding and there are certainly plenty of native flowers available to use.  This September wedding was held at Glen Albyn Estate south of Hobart.

Glen Albyn Estate is perched on the top of an escarpment with views forever.  Its a great spot.

For this wedding, leafy and wild, with pinks soft tones was the brief.    For the bride, a mix of protea varieties - white Donna, Pink Cream and Satin Mink with the black fringing.  I used thryptomene and Pimelea Nivea, both dainty white native flowers  Wattle in bud provided some lush texture, along with some Berzlia.  

I also used some blue Sea Holly, and soft pink leucadendrons called Silvan Red, which lighten in colour significantly towards the end of winter and beginning of spring.  There are also some early golden Dryandra and gumnuts added.  

The bridesmaids had less colour but plenty of the same foliage and texture plants.  

The central proteas are Protea Donna, a lovely white protea with a soft pink central mass.  I also used Leucadedron Silver Tree - I love its brilliant shine and silky feel.  

I love the mix of textures you get with natives  The zig-zag leaves of those golden Dryandra flowers, with the little Berzelia berries and the budded wattle is a great mix, with the dainty whites and Sea Holly in there too.   

For the grooms boutonniere, I used gum nuts, teamed with Sea Holly, Thryptomene and Berzelia.  The foliage used was Risdon Peppermint and the zig-zag Dryandra leaves.  

Lots of lovely bouts all in a row!

Carrying on with the leafy theme, I made 15 metres of leafy garlands to dress the tables for the reception.  

Masses of Risdon Peppermint foliage with sprigs of wattle buds interspersed, snaked along the workbench and across the floor of the flower shed.  Soooo much foliage!

More foliage for the three foliage chandeliers that hung from the ceiling.  

These look so effective, hung from the ceiling.  I added in some sprigs of twisted willow to hang down at irregular intervals.  A great way to add atmosphere to a room.

It was a treat to be involved in this lovely couples special day, and to add a little native flower magic to the occasion.  

February Wedding at Battery Point Community Hall

This February, I had the pleasure of providing flowers for a gorgeous Hobart wedding.  The ceremony was held at the Battery Point Community Hall - an intimate venue with wonderful natural light.   Talented Tasmanian photographer, Nina Hamilton, captured the day.  

The bride loved burgundy, and with neutral coloured bridesmaid's dresses the contrast with the rich burgundy tones worked really well.  

Rich maroon smoke bush foliage, Leucadendron Safari Sunset and the finer leafed Leucadendron Tall Red were the main burgundy ingredients, with a small amount of dark Leptospermum foliage also added.  

Eucalyptus Crenulata is a gorgeous gum foliage that has a silvery bloom , as well as a purple tinge on its new growth.  It was perfect as an addition to the bouquets to add some subtle highlights.

Each bouquet also included rich red Banksia Occidentalis, silvery grey Brunia Albiflora, Protea Pink Ice, and rich orange Leucospermum Cordifolium.  

The men wore simple leafy boutonnieres with an emphasis on the burgundy.  

The groom's boutonniere had a smallish green gumnut with the burgundy foliages and some Eucalyptus Crenulata. 

Battery Point Community Hall is a great central venue.  The arch, signing table and seating were provided by Style-My-Day.  Nina was great to work with and has lots of experience making Hobart weddings look amazing.

For the arch, I used more Leucadendron Tall Red, burgundy Leptospermum, Eucalyptus Crenulata and Smoke Bush.  I added some rich black Elderberries for depth and Brunia for texture.  Then, more orange pincushions, some red pincusions, and more Banksia Occidentalis.  

The rustic signing table was decorated with a collection of jars.  

At the reception venue, there were lots of little jars of colour.

The reception was held at Coal Valley Cider.  

More pincushions, Brunia, Protea and burgundy Leucos with some more Elderberries and gum foliage.  

Lots of the colour pots were made with handles for hanging around the relaxed venue.  

They really brightened things up, and carried on the theme of the wedding.  

The colours really glowed.  

I really loved working with the moody, rich colours for this wedding.

And of course, seeing the bride and her girls looking so amazing and relaxed was great too.  Love my job!
