Pretty Pink January Wedding at Stewarts Bay Lodge

For this January wedding at Stewarts Bay Lodge, the brief was soft pinks with plenty of foliage.

  We are lucky in Tasmania that our Protea Pink Ice flower pretty much all year round, so there's always something pink to work with, but to make something extra special for this special couple, I dialled up the the pink!

Clear pink hydrangeas perfect for the picking, were great in the bouquets.  I used the hydrangeas and Pink Ice proteas along with Scarlet Ribbons pincushions which have a softer colour when they first begin to flower.  

  

Other ingredients you can see are the shiny Silver Tree cones, dusky silver Brunia "berries", some soft green sea holly, and pinky-purple Hebe.  

Foliages used are variegated pittosporum, and Risdon Peppermint gum.  

For the groom, Safari sunset leucos in their deep Burgundy summer colour, hydrangea, sea holly, peppermint gum and Hebe.

For the dads, no hydrangea but some little Jubilee Crown leuco cones were added.  

Its a very satisfying thing to line up all the boutonnieres - they always look so happy!

The lovely bride provided some birdcages to fill with flowers.  These were to hang from hooks on the lawn overlooking the bay at Stewarts Bay Lodge.  As can be the case in Tassie, the weather had different ideas and the ceremony was held indoors.  

I decided these looked best with the flowers and foliage spilling out through the bars.

For the reception, we made a long bridal table garland to sit in front of the bride and groom.  It was full of pincushions, hydrangea, brunia, sea holly and foliages.  

For the guests tables, vases filled with more of the same.  Lots of foliage including some top the beautiful shiny Silver Tree foliage.  

The table numbers were added with little peg picks.  I think combining the table number and the flowers works well in terms of minimising clutter on the tables and creating an overall look.  

Stewarts Bay Lodge is a great venue filled with natural light.

Summer Elopement Style Wedding at Stewarts Bay Lodge

This special "secret" wedding was held in February at Stewarts Bay Lodge on the Tasman Peninsula with only close family and friends in attendance.  The couple surprised everyone the following day at their "engagement party" which became a "surprise, we're married!" party.  Fun!   

The colour scheme was muted pinks and neutrals with a pop of colour.  The beautiful bride was wearing dusky pinks and the attendants were in soft dusky neutrals so they wanted something to work in with that theme .   Early February meant I had some great pastel colours to work with using flowering gum, pincushions and proteas.  

Soft velvety pink Protea Compacta and Pincushion Fountain were the main flowers.  The bride's bouquet had a gorgeous Lillium too.  Creamy white hydrangea with pink touches of were also added and the beautiful pastel purple of alliums. The gorgeous foliage, soft and pastel coloured, is Eucalyptus Risdonii, or Risdon Peppermint which is a Tasmanian native gum. 

One of my favourite February natives is the wonderful Corymbia Ficifolia, a variety of flowering gum that comes in a wide range of colours from very pale pink through to hot pink, coral, peach, orange and intense reds.  I used a couple of different colours here - a hot pink, still mostly in bud, and a soft fluffy pink.  

What a stunner!  Fluffy and magical.

Other ingredients included Brunia Albiflora and cute little poppy pods.  

For the flower girl, a simple posy.  

Both the bride and the flowergirl wore crowns of flowering gum and peppermint foliage.  I loved the soft colouring and texture they created.  

And for the groom, more peppermint foliage, flowering gum and a poppy pod.  

For table decorations, I created some boxed arrangements with the same soft pastels.  I love the mix of pink, orange and purple pastels with the creamy white and the gum.  A surprising but satisfying combination.

The boxed arrangements were dotted along the centre of long tables.

Each simple place setting had a sprig of peppermint gum.

Atmospheric Stewarts Bay Wedding in January

Summer weddings in Tasmania don't always mean blue skies and blazing sunshine.  And that's not a bad thing!   Overcast skies can be moody and atmospheric, especially if set against a backdrop of the untouched beauty of the Tasman Peninsula.  The beautiful photos of this January wedding at Stuart Bay Lodge by Cassie Sullivan Weddings illustrate the idea perfectly, showcasing the ruggedness of the Tasman Peninsula landscape as well as the emotion of the day.  

The large red Protea Compacta was the central flower with its soft silvery pink outer bracts and burgundy red central mass.

The bridesmaids wore dark steel blue and the brief was for neutral tones with plenty of foliage.   

For the four bridesmaids, I used all with the same ingredients as the Bride's bouquet, but on a smaller scale.  

Lots of wonderful Risdon Peppermint eucalyptus foliage tied the bouquets todether.  I also used beautiful Leucadendron Silver Tree foliage and some native fern.  

Creamy white hydrangeas were added as well as some gorgeous white flowering gum.  Each bouquet also had dainty green gumnuts, Hebe, Safari Sunset leucos, and some flowering herbs.  

Brunia albiflora, a wonderful summer "flower" was also used.

The photos of this wedding were truly gorgeous!  Having a great photographer makes the memories really stay with you. 

For the men, more green gumnuts with flowering gum, peppermint foliage and gum leaves, and more herbal flowers.  

The groom's boutonniere stood out with the addition of some Leucadendron Silver Tree.

The ceremony was held on the grass area overlooking Stewarts Bay.

The shoreline is a great spot for photos.  

The reception was held at Gabriel's On the Bay.  Each guest table had a vase of flowers and plenty of the native foliages too.   

Lots more foliage plus Protea Pink Ice, Safari Sunset leucos, creamy white hydgrangea, Hebe, flowering gum, and Brunia Albiflora.

The couple provided the table numbers which worked really well in the vases.  Such a great idea!

The bridal table was decorated with a long garland.  A painted sign sat in front of the newly weds surrounded by foliage and flowers as part of the garland.

It's always a pleasure to be involved in such a beautiful celebration, but it's even better when you get to see such great photos of the day!  

Soft Pinks and Greens for a January Wedding

January Wedding Bouquet

Soft pinks and mint greens were the colours for this January wedding.  The bride loved eucalyptus and gum nuts and wanted something soft to compliment the bridesmaid's dresses in mint.  January was challenging this year with warmer than average temperatures and much lower rainfall than usual.  It meant that there was some unusual timing with some of the blooms, but we managed to come up with some pretty colours and textures to suit the theme.

White Ice Proteas flowering earlier than expected were happily snapped up to suit the theme.  Some rare January Pink Ice were also used.  Beautiful Brunia Albiflora was looking fabulous and is always a great addition to a bouquet no matter what the colour scheme.  

You can also see some Red Protea Compacta.  Smaller filler flowers used were Ozothamnus, a native that grows in the bush here.  If picked at just the right time it can be a beautiful filler flower, a relative of the Rice Flower.  I also used Elderberries for a rich purply-pink contrast.  

Used in the bouquets and more prominently in the boutonnieres are these silvery white cones with a purplish tinge.  They are the cones from the Leucadendron Pisa plant which are in season in the summer months.  I removed the outer bracts from these cones, which are lime green at this time of year.  The result was a pearly cone perfect for the focal point of the boutonnieres.

Vintage barely-pink lace was used as the binding for the bouquets and boutonnieres.  The brides dress had a tiny touch of pink to its colouring and this lace was perfect for the job.

Foliage used included the beautiful Leucadendron Silver Tree, ready earlier than usual thanks to the weather conditions.  Some Agonis Flexuosa with its whispy foliage and delicate white flowers made a great addition for the draping, cascading effect.  A mix of other eucalyptus foliages was also used.

In the boutonniere gum leaves also featured.  Some local native tea-tree and Leucadendron Jubilee Crown cones were used too.  I love the pink blush of the Jubilee Crown in summer.  A great little addition to bouquets and boutonnieres.

A close up revealed some very early Banksia Occidentalis.  These flower in late summer and early autumn and these were the first pick of the season.  Banksia Occidentalis is a bright red flower but needs to develop its colouring on the bush.  If picked early the flower is fully formed but the colour is not as intense and provided a dusky pink addition to the bouquets.  This picture also shows the purplish tinge that the L. Pisa cones get - such a pretty Leucadendron.

These arrangements were used on wine barrels for decorating the ceremony.  I used all the same ingredients as for the bouquets.
