Colourful February Wedding at Bangor Vineyard Shed

I really enjoyed playing with colour for this fabulous wedding at Bangor Vineyard Shed last February.  The challenge was the bride's colourful dress, which was actually her mother's wedding dress,  embroidered all over with colourful flowers.  Not only did I love the idea, but the result was truly beautiful and unique.

One of my favourite Tasmanian photographers captured the day.  I love Nina Hamilton's documentary style which expresses the natural beauty and joy of each event.  Her website is worth a look. 

The bride's and bridesmaid's bouquet were full of colour.    The colours on the wedding dress were bright but soft so I keep the colour palette to similar tones.   Lots of pinks, red, orange, blue, green, and yellow.  

The bridesmaid's dress was a mustard yellow with spots, so Billy Buttons were an obvious choice.Protea Compacta and Pink, along with Scarlet Ribbons Pincushions were the main flowers.  

There were blue echinops or globe thistles, light pink and deeper pink flowering gum and beautiful blue green Peppermint foliage.   

The soft pink grass heads were a foraged find - such a great colour and beautifully summery.  

I also used a summer flowering wattle that I love to use in bouquets.  It holds its blossoms well but looks great even in bud, with the little yellow balls sitting at great angles on the stem.  

For the groom and the groomsman, there were Billy Buttons, foraged grass heads, peppermint and flowering gum.  

For the dads, more flowering gum, grass, peppermint and some wattle.  

The mums wore wrist corsages with the same combination of pink, yellow and blue, with blue-green foliage.  

The ceremony was held at the bottom of the vineyard, overlooking the bay.  

The was a simple wine barrel overflowing with colour.  It was a beautiful day!

I really loved creating the wine-barrel arrangement with lots of different coloured flowering gum, wattle, plenty of peppermint. proteas and pincushions and plenty of other colourful blooms. 

Chairs were decorated with little posies of colour.  

For the reception, the long tables at Bangor were decorated with more colour in dark glass vases.  Protea Pink Ice, Pincushion, Flowering Gum, Wattle, Echinops, Silver Tree Leucadendron, Peppermint foliage, foraged grass and Billy Buttons. 

These were a pleasure to make.  I really do love colour!

One really large arrangement decorated the venue inside.  Profuse flowering gum, wattle and peppermint gum with some jaunty Billy Buttons.  So much Australian native love here.

That look pretty much says it all!

Summer Wedding at Stewarts Bay Lodge

Summer!  This summer wedding was held at Stewarts Bay Lodge in Port Arthur on the Tasman Peninsula.  Rose gold and blush colours were teamed with reds and whites to create the bouquets and florals.  

For the bouquets, there were Pincushions in red tones - Scarlet Ribbons and a darker pinky red version of Fountain.  

The pincushions were teamed with Pink Ice protea, and white hyrdrangea.  There were deep burgundy Safari Sunset Leucos,  and the cherry red cones of Jubilee Crown Leucadendron.  Fragrant blush-coloured Clethra, Echinacea and blush Hypericum Berries were added too.

Brunia Albirflora added some texture.  For foliage, there was anksia foliage in a warm green, and lots of cool blue Risdon Peppermint.  

For the groomsmen, there were boutonnieres with rich red Leucos, Jubilee Crown, banksia and peppermint foliage and blush Hypericum berries.  

There was also a boutonniere for the Father of the Bride ... 

and one for her mum too.  

The ceremony took place on the grass, overlooking Stewarts Bay.

The floral arch decorations carried on the theme of the bouquets with Pincusions, Protea, Hydrangea, Brunia, Leucadenron and lots of lush foliage.  

For the reception, there were colourful table decorations.

Pincushion Scarlet ribbons and Fountain, with Pink Ice Protea, white Hydrangea were the main flowers.  There were low lights of burgundy Safari Sunset leucos,  blush coloured Hypericums, Clethra and lots of foliage.  

The table numbers were laser cut and looked fabulous sitting up above the flowers.  Twisted willow added some height with its wayward branches creating lovely lines in the space.  

The table decorations were created in wooden boxes, lime-washed to suit the blush theme.

The beautiful photos by Katinka Smith really capture the light beautifully.  

I really enjoyed decorating the cake for this summer wedding. The flowers cascaded down the side from the top to the second tier.  The cake was made by Annettes Cakes, a local Tasman Peninsula cake maker.  We used flowers in keeping with the theme to create this gorgeous summery look.

It was, as always, a pleasure to provide flowers for this summery wedding.  I wish the lovely bride and groom all the very best for their future together.  

Autumn Elopement at Cradle Mountain

This elopement style wedding in autumn was held at Lemonthyme Wilderness Retreat near beautiful Cradle Mountain in Tasmania's world heritage wilderness.  The bride wanted something romantic and woodsy so I found some soft romantic colours to blend together for the bouquets and personal flowers. 

Perfect Pink Ice proteas in their autumn flush were teamed up with White Protea Repens.  Banksia Brownii and soft green Hydraneas were also used.  The wonderful colours in the autumn Leucadendrons was really important to the design - green with bronze tips from Inca Gold, and rich pinky red with a stripe from Jester.   

Foliage from Leucadendron Silver Tree was added to some budded Cootamundra Wattle foliage, and lemonscented Tea Tree.  I also used some Risdon Peppermint foliage.  

I added little blue highlights with Love in a Mist, from the garden.  A few Corymbia gum nuts completed the list of ingredients.  

I love to add twiggy textural elements, and I think it really added to the woodsy, romantic feel of these bouquets.  The flower girl's bouquet was smaller, but with the same ingredients.   

Of course, no romantic woodsy wedding would be complete without a floral crown or two!  There were crowns for both the bride and the flower girl, made with plenty of budded Cootamundra Wattle (Acacia Baileyana) and leucadendron Jester as focal flowers.  

I love the softness that this combination of colours and textures created.  I hope the day was full of happy memories!

February Wedding at Steeles Island

February is a busy month for weddings in Tasmania and the dates book out early.   The bride for this February Wedding was super organised and had planned everything well ahead.   But a last minute change to the bridesmaid dresses changed the flower colours and we ended up with the combination of peach and plum.  

Pincushion Fountain was the main flower that I used.  Grouped together the orange makes a bold statement.  The bridesmaid dresses were covered in a very large floral print in orange, purple and green - so a bold statement was called for.  

Acacia Bailyana, or Cootamundra Wattle, is a gorgeous native foliage that is wonderful to use in bouquets.  It comes in two colours, a beautiful eucalyptusy blue-green, and a purple.  I was able to use the purple foliage for these bouquets which give a wonderful misty purple texture. 

The brides bouquet included some Protea Pink Ice.  I love the way the purple centres of the Pink Ice are brought out with the purple surrounding them. 

Poppy pods peep out from amongst the flowers.  I love them!

Other foliage used is the Leucadendron Silver Tree.  Each bouquet also had Brunia Albiflora and some large native fern leaves.  

The brides bouquet also included some clusters of berries.  Such a beautiful colour!

The lovely bride was so organised she had purchased her vases almost a year before the wedding.  The copper colour of the geometric vases went well with the orange, purple and silvery blue green of the flowers.  

I grow Brunia Albiflora sourced from two different nurseries here at Swallows Nest Farm, and have ended up with 2 slightly different colours.  For this wedding, I used the more browny purple Brunia.  

More native ferns, purple Acacia Bailyana, Pincushion Fountains, some rosy Jubilee Crown Leucadendron cones, Silver Tree foliage, Risdon Peppermint foliage, and light purple Caspia.

For the cake 'topper' this arrangement was to sit against the base of the larger bottom tier of the cake.  I love the fern leaf in this design.  

This little mini-bouquet was laid on the top tier of the cake.

It was a pleasure to play with such beautiful bold colours and to be involved in this couple's happy day.
